How does FoodShare work?

Each box of produce is filled with 10-12 varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables and would retail for around $30. The produce in our boxes varies every two weeks! Boxes must be ordered and paid for in advance*. Produce boxes are available for pick-up at our drive-thru location every other Wednesday in the parking lot behind the Buck Mickel Center, at 57 Frederick st Greenville SC 29607.

*SNAP customers have the option to pre-order boxes without pre-paying, but prepaid boxes are heavily preferred.

How do I order from a partner site?

If our public drive-thru site isn’t convenient for you, we have several partner site pick-up locations open for walk-in and phone orders. They are listed here on our website, with contact information and instructions for ordering. There are also nearby FoodShare hubs in Spartanburg, Laurens, and Pickens!

How do I order? How do I qualify for the program?

You can order with a credit or debit card under the “ORDER” tab on our website, foodsharegreenville.org. To inquire about ordering with SNAP, call (888) 366-3485. Anyone is eligible to order, but FoodShare is specifically designed for customers who could benefit from accessible, low-cost fresh food. If you are looking to support the program, please consider adding a donation to your order!

How much does the box cost?

The boxes cost $20 with cash or card, or $5 with SNAP. SNAP boxes are always $5 due to SC state reimbursements called Healthy Bucks, which SNAP customers can also access at farmers’ markets!

What if I need to cancel my order?

The order cancellation deadlines fall on the same days as order deadlines (the Thursday BEFORE pick-up day). We submit our produce order soon after finalizing our incoming customer orders; therefore, we must have a finalized number of customer orders no later than midnight on order deadline dates. We will still need to collect funds for box orders canceled after deadlines have passed.

What if my card has insufficient funds?

If your box hasn’t been paid for by the order deadline (the Thursday BEFORE the pick-up date), we cannot provide you with a box. You CAN pay with an alternate payment method, such as cash, check, or credit/debit card. If you are paying cash or check, you can bring your payment to our office at 1186 Pendleton St by the order deadline. *Note: If your SNAP card has insufficient funds and you choose to pay with card or cash, your box will cost $20 rather than $5.

What if I am unable to pick up my FoodShare box? Do you deliver?

Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to deliver boxes to customers’ residences. You can send anyone to pick up your box, but if no one is able to pick up your box by 6 PM on the pick-up day, we will donate it. We cannot offer a refund, as the deadline for canceling orders will have passed.

What if I get bad produce in my FoodShare box?

We do our best to maintain strong quality control procedures, but given the large scale of our processing, we sometimes do not catch bad produce before it goes into a FoodShare box. If you receive several bad produce items (over 1/4 the contents of the box), please document it as soon as possible with photos and either text the photo to (888) 366-3485 or email it to foodshare@millcommunity.org with a detailed description for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Any feedback on produce is welcomed and appreciated!

Does the produce in the box come from your farm?

Our parent organization, Mill Village Farms, provides some of the produce that goes into our FoodShare boxes. Unfortunately, our farms are not large enough to fill our boxes completely, but we source our produce locally whenever possible!

How long will this program continue?

As long as there is a need in Greenville County! We distribute boxes year-round, every two weeks, indefinitely. See our calendar for specific dates.
