About Youth Classes

Youth Development Classes

All students who are working on a farm crew are required to take one development class per work season. The classes vary from season to season. 

School year classes are open to students not working on the farm. They are free and offer a free dinner. Times and locations vary. Fill out the form below if you'd like more information! 

In Spring 2019 we are offering two classes - Powered for Life and 6-Cycle!

Powered For Life will start the week of February 3rd

Monday Evenings from 5:15-7:30pm at Juanita Butler Community Center

Wednesday Evenings from 5:15-7:30pm at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church

Future Planning

During this 7-week course, students explore different educational and professional pathways for their future.

Money Skills

During this 7-week course, students learn how to manage money and why it’s important. Personal finance training is offered from professional bankers from Pinnacle Bank. Class concludes with a tour of Pinnacle Bank at McBee Ave.

6-Cycle

6-Cycle is a character and bike building program that empowers teenagers to completely rebuild a bicycle with the help of a Village Wrench mentor mechanic. During the six week session, mentors work with the teens in training to cover every part on their bikes from bottom brackets to derailleurs to re-wiring brake cables. Part of the curriculum covers key characteristics that are essential for success in life: Grit - Optimism - Self Control - Gratitude - Social Intelligence - Curiosity.

Bonus! Graduates also become eligible to apply for a paid part-time position at Village Wrench bike shop!

Powered For Life

During this 11-week course, student focus on how to get and keep a job. Class includes workshops, guest speakers and connections for summer jobs. Topics include conflict resolution, resume writing, interview skills, customer service training, how to locate and apply for summer and part time jobs. 100% of our past graduates received summer jobs!

Stress Management

During this 7-week course, students learn valuable skills to help with conflict resolution and self care in the workplace and at home. Class is taught by a professional counselor and certified mindfulness instructor.

Cooking & Nutrition

During this 4-week course, students learn how the food we eat effects our bodies. Our professional nutritionist, Kimberly Morgan from Kim United, teaches on fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Class is followed by a cooking lesson taught by Table301 chefs.

Fitness

During this 4-week course, students meet with a varied of different fitness instructors from personal trainers to barre instructors and yoga teachers. The objective of this class is to expose our students to different activities to ensure healthy lifestyles.
