The Farm Apprentice will work alongside our Farm Director and Manager to develop urban farming skills and knowledge. Work and learning will include introduction and skill development in all areas of sustainable agriculture as practiced by Mill Village Farms including, but not limited to: crop planning, soil management, hydroponic growing, seeding, transplanting, insect control, disease management, nutrient management, cultivation, harvest, post harvest handling, small tool use, composting, pruning, and trellising. Apprentice will lead and train Crew Leaders and student Crew Members in daily farm tasks.
Applicants must have prior experience working outdoors in a leadership position, interest in sustainable agriculture and a passion for on-job experience-based education. If applicate is under 21, they will be asked to drive their personal vehicle to various farm locations during the work day. They also must have the ability to lift 50 lbs and work for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
The Farm Apprentice is expected to work Monday-Friday from May to mid-August. Hours are approximately 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. In addition to the normal work hours with teens, there will be staff meetings once a week and occasional after work activities with students (i.e. camping trip, career tours, pool days, bowling, ect).
Paid compensation will be discussed.
